Over the past several months, MERCYhouse has been having conversations regarding the actions of prominent leaders and churches within the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Convention itself.

One of our (the elders) hopes is to hear from everyone in our membership. We want to thank those who have been vulnerable in sharing their thoughts and feelings on a topic that is disturbing and heart breaking.

How has the revelation of sexual abuse within the SBC affected you, your walk with the Lord, or MERCYhouse?

We're asking this to help us understand the impact of the events on our community, and to see how we can prayerfully love and support you.

Do you think that MERCYhouse should stay in the SBC or leave the SBC, and why?

Here are some examples of where people land on this issue: There are those who believe that remaining in the SBC hinders our witness and that leaving the denomination would communicate a strong and necessary point of protest against the egregious nature of sin that has been revealed. There are others who believe that the SBC is exhibiting unprecedented transparency and that the initiatives taken represent sincere repentance– and that staying in the SBC would be an opportunity for transformational reform.
